Edward
Jenner is well known as the creator of the first vaccine and indeed
the “Father of Immunology”. He trained in medicine in London but
returned to Gloucestershire where he carried out much of his life's
work. He was also fascinated by geology and natural sciences, and
developed his garden specifically to experiment in the area of
botany. His house has a fascinating history as well as interesting
period features and the vinery includes a fabulous example of vines
grown under cover.
Catherine
Jones, who has been fascinated by medicine and in particular,
pathology since she was a child, (her grandfather was an eminent
pathologist who worked on developing penicillin and the first cancer
treatments) conceived of the idea of art work inspired by Edward
Jenner in 2012. She is delighted to be curating this exhibition
which in part is to encourage new artists to enter into the field of
visual
response.

Jenner story, and the themes within the museum's current exhibitions.
