Installation day at Jenner Museum

We had a fantastic morning getting Paul's "visions of the city" exhibition together, with the help of Rod, who is the expert on putting pictures on temperamental plaster- so a big thanks to him for making it happen!

Paul's 2 and 3 D work looks simply stunning- you must go and see it "for real" as the first impression you get as you look through the windows or door, draw you in to the colour, line and texture of a frenetic view of urban life.

I even went and purchased a piece, as I couldn't resist... it's already installed at home and looks amazing next to a cabinet of old dinky toys etc and the angelpoise lamp below sets it off perfectly.

So here are some photos of the installation process- our helpers today were Mia, Nicholas and Michael, who also had fun discovering one of the Bristol Gromits, living round the back of the exhibition space!

This selection of Paul's work is emminently affordable- prices starting from £50 for a 3D work, £25 for 2D- but imagine if you had the space for all of these? They would look stunning in a contemporary home.....

The view in through the window- it calls you to investigate more thoroughly- Paul's work really needs a close look at the all the incredible detail and skill using quite ordinary materials- biros, marker pens, PVA glue, foamboard etc- to create a vision of urban life.

See how well the work fits into a "normal" home- I think the dinky cars and anglepoise lamp set it off perfectly!

Nicholas & Michael Jones Exhibition 17-18 August "Creative Cars & Other Stuff...."

Here are some examples of the fantastic art being produced right now at the Art Factory, currently in France!  To see it all, be blown away by colour, random monsters and supersonic space travel come along to the exhibition at the Gallery at the End of the Lane 17-18 August.

There will be loads of scrumdidiliumptious (to quote Nicholas)

home made cakes, tea, hot chocolate, and cold drinks for sale, as well as the art, some framed, some unframed, and all proceeds from teas and 10% of art will be donated to purchase and distribute anti malarial bednets for children in Sierra Leone. Our local GP, Dr Fletcher, is currently working there, so children's lives will be saved within days of you having fun at the Gallery!

The Gallery at the End of the Lane is promoting Paul's exhibition at Dr Jenner's House and Garden commencing 6th August-  but he will be showing more his work later in the year- 21-22 September, on the same theme.

To whet your appetite for both exhibitions here are some photos of some of his work on this theme- we're sure you'll agree they are amazing, colourful, witty and unique! Here's a chance to own some wonderful contemporary art with an affordable price (and remember 10% is being donated to charity- so you can feel good about buying it!)

What's coming up...

On 6th August, we are delighted that Paul Dingley, a good friend of The Gallery at the End of the Lane, is going to be exhibiting at Dr Jenner's House & Garden, in Berkeley. The exhibition is being promoted by us and will be on for 3 weeks, so do take the opportunity to see it.

The subject is "Visions of the City"- a futuristic, challenging view of the urban landscape in mixed media- some small scale, some large, 2D and 3D work- so everyone will have room to purchase a piece!

Pictures will follow soon- in the meantime, if you don't get a chance to see his work in Berkeley, he will be exhibiting in our own Gallery at the End of the Lane (all previously unseen work! he is a seriously hard worker!) the weekend of 21-22 September, when, of course, there will be scrummy teas and cakes for sale.  10% of sales and profits from teas will be donated to SHAPE, fighting malaria and other diseases in Africa.

New exhibition

If you haven't had a chance to see Catherine Jones' "Time for Tea", a critical analysis of modern society and superficiality, then there's still time, as The Gallery at the End of the Lane is showing this installation on Sunday 7th July 2.30-5pm. Snacks & cakes available too, in the retro caravan: all profits to SHAPE.

Just a reminder that this installation contains offensive language and imagery so isn't suitable for children or those of a prudish disposition!

We have a fantastic range of exhibitions running this summer and autumn so hope that you will visit the gallery very soon!

We are thrilled that Alison Kirby will be exhibiting in the Gallery at the End of the Lane in November. (16-17- put in your diaries now!)

Alison's work has a delicacy of touch that perfectly suits the intimate surroundings of the gallery. She mainly works figuratively, but is interested in subjects such as memory and emotion that impact on how and why we see the way we do.  She is not afraid of taking risks, using unusual materials as well as more conventional pen and ink, charcoal, water colour...

Her work would sit beautifully in your living room, but would still give you pause for thought. Therefore you can't afford to miss this one!


As usual there will be delicious tea, cakes, hot chocolate etc available,all raising money for charity.

Update on exhibitions this summer/autumn

First of all, Pam Bowden has confirmed that she will be showing her remarkable photographs of St Ives at her exhibition this October. They are a place of stillness and reflection in our manic world- her sense of the moment being suspended in time is powerful. I can't recommend this exhibition enough!


And I'll be showing my somewhat different installation, time for tea, which  makes reference to a number of social and political issues, as well as (sorry, folks!) containing some offensive language so not really suitable for younger people. However, it will make you ponder, it works on many levels and you will have the opportunity to see it in a perfect setting- an enclosed space, where the claustrophobia of the piece will have its full impact.

It will be shown on consecutive Sundays- 30 June and 7 July.

Of course there's nothing to stop you bringing your children to enjoy fabulous cakes and hot chocolates (or let's hope, cooling drinks) in the retro caravan- all proceeds to charity. (http://www.shapeafrica.org.uk/)
